Spotlight: Jack "Juicy J"
Q&A with our frontman, flagman, guitarist & everything inbetween
What’s your name, your instrument, and how long have you been with Sneezy?
JACK JOHN HARVEY HOLLAND
HYPE MAN
(The Not Actually Playing Guitar / Not Lead Singer Guy)How did you first end up in this band?
I printed out the lyrics to Sugar How You Get So Fly by Baby Bash and got BOC to sing them with me.Describe the Sneezy sound to someone who’s never heard us — but you can’t use the word “funky.”
Sneezy sounds like a photo album of kids getting bigger. What song in the set do you look forward to playing the most, and why?
SANDWICH. I enjoy watching all the people in the audience gravitate towards Brett‘s microphone in order to scream their favorite cheeses. Then after the electric guitar is done shredding and we return to the funk, I revel in watching every body thrash in ecstasy. What was your toughest gig with Sneezy?
The next gig. What was your favorite gig with Sneezy?
The last gig.Who is the artist who most inspired you to pursue music?
James Brown.
The year before he died, I saw him perform, He was still doing the splits and dancing. Also Leon Schlesinger
What’s a skill, hobby, or obsession you have that has absolutely nothing to do with music?
Music is the lens I understand the world through. From the sound of a ratchet wrench to the seemingly silent spherical muses in the sky, there is no escaping how EVERYTHING has to do with music. Next question.Who in the band would you call if you had a flat tire? Who would you call if you had an extra ticket to a show?
If for some reason, I wasn’t capable of fixing my flat tire, I would call Destiny. The first time we filled our diesel engine with gasoline, she took out her saxophone and played. Her magical talent summoned a mechanic who showed us how to siphon our tank and get back on our way. I would also call Destiny if I had an extra ticket to a show because she’s fun and spontaneous. The van is gone but Boogie Nation showed up. What does that mean to you?
“Ask not what Boogie Nation can do for the Van - Ask what the Van can do for Boogie Nation.” - JFK
Did you notice that every band member answered “Jack” for the flat tire question? This man is handy. Last year, he made sure we could load-in with every piece of gear on wheels for ease. He attached the wheels himself! If you’ve ever seen a Sneezy show, you know that there’s an explosion of color and fabric and props on stage. That’s all Jack. The tour wouldn’t happen without him. It won’t happen without the continued support of Boogie Nation, either. Keep our colorful show wheeling onto bigger and bigger stages with a contribution or share.
